In 1970s everywhere in the Netherlands new residential areas called “woonerven” and with more green space were built. These were also known as “cauliflower cities” (English: New Towns). Examples of this are o. a. Maarssenbroek, Hague Beemden (Breda), lake district (Lead) and Beijum (Groningen). The photograph provides an image of what one looked like soon after construction.
