When you have a majority in the leg, and you do not give a stuff about what anybody else thinks or says, you can get away, it seems, with almost anything.
I am a recusant transportation economist and regional planner, displaced from England by the abolition of the Greater London Council and a dislike of Thatcherism. Until March of 2004 I worked for the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority on wide variety of policy issues. None of these have been solved since I left, and the region now seems to be likely to abandon its long established growth strategy altogether, as the province is determined to expand its major freeway. I have long advocated more sensible policies to better integrate transport and land use. And this blog is a way to keep up the pressure! It also allows me to vent a bit on related issues.

does not matt burrows realize that in provincial politics —the majority rules! —I watch legislature everyday,and the ndp have put forward referal motions,hoist motions ,and others to try and stop bills and amendments– but when canwest global donates 50000 to bc liberal party–and stifles all its boot licking media–and does nothing but promote bad bc liberal ideas–can west global owns–global news -chek tv–shaw tv–the national post–chorus radio–cknw–and hundreds of other –and they own ipsos reid polling!!—-and the vancouver sun and province–and what a fine media club it is ?—keith baldrey(works on cknw and global news) michael campbell (gordons brother) works for cknw-global news—-vaughn palmer works for shaw tv–the vancouver sun-and weekly appears on bill good show– and raif mair who once worked for cknw–spoke up for fish and bc human fights–and he was promptly fired–and all the other bootlicking media that canwest global owns got the message loud and clear! signed………………………………one horse town
today in legislature –bill 14 is YIKES another translink type board that has broad powers to sell our bridges and roads to concessioneers ( so whatever this hand picked board decides to do goverment can say its not us,its the new board of proffesionals) ——-there`s a section on disclosure that I find quite amusing—if your a board member and you have a personall stake with one or any of the consessioneers or companies that your dealing with ,thats okay–as long as you disclose it in writing—YIKES! this bill is about nothing but giving away more of our rights( and tolls ) —mr. rees I believe your big on tolls and fees to deter ( I am not that agreeable ) only when other options exist like transit or rail ,not just brand new fees on a few!——I live on the sunshine coast–there are no medical specialists up here ,hell I can`t even get a family doctor up here!—–so I travel regularly to lower mainland -ferries are getting very pricey!—fuel !— no transit options—the malaspina bus round trip to downtown vancouver is 80dollars–it runs once a day –and another 10 for lowermainland transit–even with that expense I still have to drive 15 kilometer round trip to meet the bus in garden bay! signed……………………………………… # 45721456-8 of the corporation of bc
